Primizie – A Wonderful Dining Experience in East Austin

salad On Friday I took Brooke out for her birthday dinner at Primizie, an Italian Osteria on the quickly gentrifying East 11th Street. I’d been there twice for lunch and enjoyed wonderful sandwiches and was looking forward to checking out the scene for dinner. At lunch we had always sat inside and it gets pretty loud because of the acoustics.

It was a gorgeous evening so we sat out on the sidewalk. We split a glass of Pinot Grigio — neither of us was in the mood to drink but wanted some wine to toast with. It was crisp and refreshing the way a white wine should be. The salad list was tempting and we chose to split the Ingnocci_001salata Mista, Avocado, all Griglia E Pancetta. It was made with greens, grilled avocado (I loved the char markings), crisp pancetta (bacon basically), and black olive red chile vinaigrette. Delicious and very different from the usual salad offerings!

For dinner we each ordered pasta — goat cheese ravioli for Brooke and potato gnocci for me with fresh corn and chanterelle mushrooms. They were both decadent and tasted authentic — the gnocci was in a butter sauce that was a bit too buttery for me though and I would have used less salt. I’d go back in a heartbeat though to try some of the other dishes — especially those salads. Also, I think this would be a great place to take a date.
